DISCOVER THE SOLDERED EXPERIENCE
THE ORIGINS OF SARAH & SEBASTIAN'S SOLDERED JEWELLERY
Our Creative Director, Sarah Munro, vividly recalls the story of her aunt's visit to the Marais, Paris in the 1970s, where she had a chain soldered to her wrist in honour of her trip. Inspired by this memory, Sarah aspired to bring the concept to life at SARAH & SEBASTIAN. SOLDERED, as we know it today, involves a solid gold chain soldered seamlessly as a ring or bracelet using the traditional jeweller's flame.
A promise, moment in time, or relationship, SOLDERED chains have come to hold a range of significance for our clients. A modern alternative to traditional friendship bracelet, they symbolise connections between friends or lovers, a tangible expression of lasting bonds.
THE SOLDERED JEWELLERY EXPERIENCE: WHAT TO EXPECT
This unique, in-person experience is hosted at our Chadstone, Strand Arcade, Mosman and Armadale stores as well as our MECCA Flagship kiosk in Sydney. Our solderers tailor each chain to the client by measuring the wrist or finger and cutting the chain to the desired fit (we recommend nice and snug). There is also the option of adding SLIDERS™ of your choice; petite charms featuring diamonds, opals, hearts or letters. You are then fitted with a protective armband to shield and protect your skin, before the two ends of the chain are soldered together directly onto the wrist, using a micro-soldering torch. After a quick test of durability, the chain is given a final polish, leaving you with a seamless SOLDERED bracelet.
In 2022, the brand introduced the SOLDERED ring, which follows the same custom-fit process as the bracelet, however, in this case, the chain is carefully soldered together and polished off the body.
“SARAH & SEBASTIAN have always sought to challenge traditional jewellery, by rebelling against convention with our manufacturing techniques and innovative approach. SOLDERED™ is an extension of this ethos,” explains co-founder Robert Sebastian Grynkofki.
SOLDERED chains are crafted from solid 10-karat or 18-karat gold, ensuring that they won’t tarnish or dull over time from swimming, showering or simply daily wear. If for any reason they need to be removed, we simply recommend cutting at the jump ring (the point where it was soldered together) so that it may be re-soldered at an aftercare appointment. During our aftercare appointments, you can add additional SLIDERS™ to existing bracelets and rings to personalise and stylise your piece.
